Improve Health and Reduce Use of Plastics


Of course, we know plastic pollution has an environmental impact, but there are growing concerns about use of plastics affecting our health. Researchers are spreading awareness about potential health risks and effects of plastic pollution on land, in our seas, and in our products.  

 

Environmental pollution, plastic overuse, and microplastics are under the microscope for an array of effects. Some studies even suggest “forever plastics” in certain packaging may contain chemicals contributing to weight gain. As research continues and activists push to reduce use of plastics – you may consider starting these very simple and healthy habits.  

 

  1. Carry a reusable water bottle to drink more water. 

This is not a new concept for saving money, but reusable water bottles are becoming more important for saving our planet. Plus, the healthy habit of carrying your own bottle could help you drink more water. Experts recommend a daily intake of at least 0.5 oz of water per each pound you weigh. Travel mugs with built-in filters allow you to fill up with fresh water from cold faucets and water fountains. 

  1. Avoid unhealthy fast foods and skip the takeout containers.

  1. Choose fresh and organic foods for better health. 

When preparing meals, make a habit to choose fresh and organic foods. Organic products have more environmentally friendly standards for producing and packaging. Consequently, opting for organic could help decrease your exposure to pesticides, toxins, and certain chemicals in plastic packaging.
